Harrisons had their Annual Expert Witness Update day on Tues 26th January at their office in Perivale. The day was a real success, facilitated by Jan Harrison our Managing Director and Catherine Willson, Care and Occupational Therapy Expert and Clinical Lead. It was well attended by over 20 of our Experts and there was something in the programme for everyone!
Sessions included, a very professional and interesting update by Giles Eyre, retired barrister, on ‘Guidance for the instruction of Experts’ – this was very well received by our experts with lots of audience questions and participation.
A superb interactive session facilitated by Helen Goatley – (senior partner in Clinical Negligence at Barlow Robbins LLP) about Joint Expert Meetings and Conferences with Counsel. Fantastic tips and advice received from Helen whose expertise was invaluable. A great opportunity for our experts to tap into the knowledge and expertise of a claimant solicitor!
Other updates included some topics from a recent National conference – relationships with solicitors and impartiality, and in house administrative procedures for Joint Expert Meetings, Conferences with Counsel and Part 35 questions. The aim being to ensure all Experts were familiar with our processes to ensure quality and consistency in these important areas of an Expert’s work. Recent case law and implications for Experts was also discussed and important recent changes to benefits which impact on assessments and costing for expert reports was also debated.
